Computers in Libraries 2008
I’m wrapping up the week at CIL2008 from the horizontal comfort of my hotel bed. This is my second year at CIL and the first “blogiversary” of The Utopian Library, this here blog that I started in the lobby of the Crystal City Hyatt at CIL2007.
My session notes include links to online resources, social software sites, and libraries doing great work to engage with their communities through 2.0 tools and technologies.
The common message at this year’s conference, at least from where I sat in each room, is this:
- The library has a story to tell.
- The story is about community. It’s not about the library.
- The community and the library can engage and support each other through creative use of social software and the library’s online presence.
- The library’s online presence and “virtual branch” rely on precious resources: money, staff, and time.
I hope my notes are useful to other 2.0 changeleaders and the communities they serve.

- Keynote: Libraries Solve Problems!
- Going Local in the Library
- Library Web Presence: Engaging the Audience
- Widgets, Tools & Doodads for Library Webmasters
